Movie Monday: Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Oh my God, this movie. It's one of those movies where I can completely forget about its existence for months, and then I see it sitting on the shelf, and I'm like "YES. SO FREAKING GOOD. MUST WATCH NOW." I had one of those moments last night, and there was nothing else I could even consider watching for this week.

Reasons why Forgetting Sarah Marshall is awesome:
1. Jason Segel. He's a genius. AND he wrote it as well as starring in it.
2. Jumping off cliffs.
3. Kristen Bell. She's fabulous.
4. Vampire rock operas.

5. Russell Brand. OMFG, brilliant.
6. Songs of self loathing.
7. Bill Hader.

12. Reports of a woman wailing.
13. Drinking cocktails while impersonating Sex and the City characters.
14. Paul Rudd.

15. Learning to surf.
16. Jonah Hill. I kind of want to punch his character in the face but he's sort of great.
17. Handbag holding montages.
18. Jack McBrayer. OMG. I love him as Kenneth in 30 Rock, but he's HILARIOUS here.
19. Kristen Bell's character impersonating Russell Brand's character.

20. Eating cereal out of a mixing bowl.
21. Russell Brand's face when he realises that the old dude is wearing the same shirt as him.
22. Dracula babies.
23. Jason Bateman cameos.

Plus, the following quotes:
- "When life gives you lemons, just say 'fuck the lemons' and bail!"
- "What's with the hat? Are you a part of the Buena Vista Social Club?"
- "I'm really losing a lot of blood." "You sound like you're from London!"
- "I was going to listen to that. But then I just carried on living my life."
- "Did she see me?" "Uh huh." "Is she coming over here?" "Yup." "I wish I wasn't wearing this fucking shirt." "Fair enough."
- "Peter?" "Hi. Hey." "What are you doing here?" "Came here to murder you... Ahahahaha."
- "It's really important in this pose that you arch your back and keep it flat at the same time." "I feel like those are opposing ideas..."
- "Well the weather outside is weather"
- "Excuse me, missus. I've lost a shoe. Like this one, it's like this one's fellow. Sort of the exact opposite, in fact, of that. Not an evil version, but just, you know."
- "I can name you over 200 different kinds of fish."
- "He's like Gandhi, but better. He likes puppets."
- "If you hate something, change it."
- "How you served five years under her, I don't know. You deserve a medal, or a holiday or at least a cuddle from somebody."
- "If you get bitten by a shark, you're not just going to give up surfing, are you?" "Yeah, probably."
- "I once saw him beat up a guy with a starfish." "That's ridiculous!" "That guy was me..."
- "Oh, if they were Sean Jean sweatpants, it would be no problem, but because they're Costco brand, it's the worst thing I could do."
- "Why won't anybody go snorkelling with me?"
- "Actually, Peter, I wanted to tell you, I was listening to Sarah's iPod the other day, and amidst the interminable dross that's on that thing, I found one track that I quite liked. So I checked what it was, and it was actually one of yours, and it kind of reminded me of a dark, gothic Neil Diamond. It's great." "That's, like, exactly what I'm going for." "Right, yeah." "Fuck you're cool! It's so hard to say, because, like, I hate you in so many ways."
- "For me, that one week of...it was like going on holiday with...I don't know, I wouldn't say Hitler. But certainly Goebbels."

So. Thoughts?

  1. My sister made my mother and I watch this with her and I'm not sure this is a movie you really want to watch with your mother in the room. Also Mila Kunis is amazingly awesome in this movie.

    1. Agreed - it's definitely not a movie to watch with your parents. Sounds about as awkward as when I went to see Brokeback Mountain at the movies with both my parents... O.o

  2. I love this movie. here's my issue since freaks and geeks, I feel that I HAVE to support the cast in anyway possible. So anything Judd Apatow/Seth Rogen/jason segel related and I'm there.

    1. I have to confess, I've never seen Freaks and Geeks. I feel like I need to rectify this at some point...
