101 in 1001 #55

It's been a while, but it's time to cross something else off my Day Zero list!!

This one actually took some forward planning - Task #55 was to keep a food journal for a month.

Given that I joined MyFitnessPal last month and have now logged for thirty days in a row, it was easier than I thought. Being able to add stuff via the app or website as I ate it rather than having to remember it all at the end of every day.

Plus, as an added bonus, the automatically calculating calories thing has given me a nice dose of "Wow, that's way worse for me than I thought it was...". Turns out, popcorn is much better (less bad??) for you than hot chocolate and Saladas. WHO KNEW?!

(Side note: have you ever created recipes for baked goods in a calorie counter? It's TERRIFYING. I mean, if you're talking about a cookie recipe that makes 40-odd cookies, the end result isn't that bad. But when you add 200g of flour to the recipe and the calorie counter is all "Oh, that's a lazy 1000 calories", you tend to have a slight wiggins...)

Have you guys ever kept a food diary? Did you find your eating habits changed when you did?

  1. I've never really kept a food diary.

Congratulations on crossing something off! That's awesome.

    1. I've been slacking so much recently on crossing things off. I really need to get on with it - I've got less than a year now!

  2. I've tried to keep food diaries but have always ended up faltering, but I actually joined MyFitnessPal after hearing you and Gina talk about it on Twitter. I've been doing it since the beginning of the month and it's great! Now I have a better idea of the nutrition of everything I'm eating and how many calories I'm burning exercises. I hope I can keep it up!

    1. How are you going with it? I updated my goals recently and spent half a day sulking when it reduced the number of calories I was allowed each day as a result!

  3. I just started using MyFitnessPal last weekend, and I am kind of obsessed with it. The fact that you can just scan a barcode and add it to your list is one of my favourite inventions in the history of ever! Also that you can track your goals weekly, instead of just daily. Some days I fail miserably (like yesterday), and some days I absolutely rock it--and my weekly balance shows me that overall, I rock. Also it allowed me to create "Costco" as an exercise because lezbehonest it's an epic adventure to shop at Costco! (357 calories in an hour if you push the cart, FYI).

    1. Oh, Costco is DEFINITELY an exercise! Even just lifting the stuff and putting it in the trolley counts. I love that it led me add choir practice as an exercise. And yes, the barcode function is phenomenal.

  4. I'm so lazy that even after I started MFP, I gave up a week in. I go to it to find out how much my exercise may be, since they are so wonky in terms of everything on that side of it. I think if that portion were made better, I'd be totally on it!

I had a physical food diary, but I've become lazy with that again~. I'm so terrible. We're not doing our BEAT EACH OTHER INTO SUBMISSION fitness regime, Lipsti.

    1. BAD MILKI. I would suggest that we rectify the situation while you're down here, but that kind of defies the point of celebrating my birthday with delicious Mexican food...
