Canberra update

So Canberra is going well. I'm learning tons at my placement, and getting up at 6.25 in the morning is surprisingly NOT killing me!

Other things that are happening:
  • The cats have stopped running away from me
  • The babies have stopped giving me the stink eye whenever I'm in their line of sight
  • I'm watching all manner of trashy TV (think Dance Moms and Toddlers and Tiaras), on account of I CAN.
  • I stole borrowed my mum's Kindle so that I don't have to carry a bunch of books around with me. It's very convenient, but having to turn the page twice as often is INCREDIBLY irritating.
  • I have NOT missed Canberra's buses. Yesterday, a girl was talking on her phone and walked into the road without looking, and the bus driver had to slam on the brakes to not kill her, and a kid went flying into the front of the bus and had to be taken to hospital with potential broken ribs.
  • I fell over when the bus driver braked, but didn't injure myself on account of falling on other people. YAY.
  • Being a proper grown up makes me sleepy like whoa, and as a result, I've been in bed before 10.30 every night since I got here.
  • It seems like my hair REALLY likes Canberra water. I don't think my hair has been this smooth and shiny in years.
  • I HAVE ACCESS TO ZUCCHINI PUFFS AND PIDES AGAIN!!!!! Seriously, I don't think you guys entirely understand just how exciting this is.
What's new with you guys?

K xx

  1. Sometimes people don't have to go to bed before 10:30????? Man, I'm old. Only 28 minutes until my bedtime.

    1. Well, when you're a student who has classes from 4.30-7.30pm, there's not a whole lot of point in getting up early, and therefore my bedtime is usually around midnight!

  2. Also, why don't kindles do page numbers? This irritates me.

    1. Right?!?!?!?! Especially seeing as if you add the Kindle version to Goodreads, it says that it's X pages long. If they can tell Goodreads how many pages it is, why can't they tell the rest of us?!

  3. Pedestrians are so dumb sometimes. My little sister got into a car accident a few weeks ago because a kid did the same thing and while the car in front of her stopped before she hit the kid, little sister couldn't stop in time not to hit the other car. And the worst part about it...THE KID KEPT WALKING. Like NOTHING had happened. Oy.

Also...what the heck is a zucchini puff?

    1. Zucchini puffs are amaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing!! They're basically Turkish zucchini fritters, except that they're not flat - they look more like a profiterole.

And this girl kept walking too!! What the hell is wrong with people?!

  4. I do of enjoy e readers. I love to flip back and forth, looking to see what I "missed" when something new is revealed. Swiping th screen an infinite number of times is no fun.

    1. I think I would like e-readers a lot more if the books had stayed at the $1-$3 price that a lot of them were in the early days when they were trying to convince people to switch. Now that they're often $15 for the e-book? Uh, NO. I'll just get it from the library for free, thankyouverymuch.

  5. On the hair/canberra water thing- when I moved to Melbourne this was one of the most noticeable thing. The water here did awful things to my hair. Interesting...

    1. Melbourne water: tastes good, but fucks with your hair.

  6. I'm actually going to Canberra not this weekend but next. Mostly for a wedding, but I might have some time to look around Sunday - do you have any suggestions of places I should check out with my husband? (zucchini puff place maybe? hehe)

    1. Well there are any number of museums and galleries to visit (and they're all free!). There IS a Turkish place in the city from whence you could obtain zucchini puffs if you so desired. Flick me an email if you want more specific suggestions based on where you're staying etc! :)
