Things I Like Thursday, Volume 4

Seen random stuff on the internet that you find hilarious or just want to share? Head over to Gina's to link up!

So first of all, this is my 400th post. I was half planning something exciting for my 400th post, like a vlog tour of Melbourne or a "These are my thoughts from rewatching Dawson's Creek now that I've finished it" post. Problem being, I haven't finished rewatching Dawson's Creek, and a vlog tour of Melbourne would require having time to FILM a vlog tour of Melbourne. Both of those posts will happen eventually. Just not today. So...yeah.

FOUR HUNDRED POSTS, YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY.

Moving on.

Normally, I would wait until Gina had actually put her post up, but pff. I'm going to be spending tomorrow sitting in a car en route to Canberra (yes, I'm voluntarily going back AGAIN. What is wrong with me????), deprived of internet access. So you get it now, and I'll link up eventually.

A point: I haz wun. Let's try and find it, shall we??

First up on the list of things I like this week is Mapping Censorship. It's a project by the American Libraries Association where they map reports of people trying to get books removed from library shelves. It's a combination of fascinating and terrifying. (Teriffscinating??)

Who remembers the noises that floppy disc drives used to make when they were saving something? Yes? Did you know that if you get a bunch of them together, you can play the Doctor Who theme song? No? BAM:

Next, there's Awesome People Hanging Out Together. I only found this a couple of hours ago, courtesy of one of my uni friends. It's literally just photos of celebrities you wouldn't think had ever met hanging out together. There's a mixture of the present day and historic photos, and it's pretty awesome.

And finally, we have something quite spectacular from the genius behind the literal video for Total Eclipse of the Heart (which is forever and always my favourite thing on Youtube). Does the trailer for The Woman in Black creep you out? (There's no shame. I'm terrified of it) NOT ANY MORE:

Monkey dance, monkey dance...

Found something online this week that you desperately need to share? Head over to Gina's and link up!

K xx
PS. Have great weekends, y'all. I'll be freezing my arse off in the 'berra. Catch you all on Monday! <3

    1. I was surprised that you could do something that awesome with old floppy drives. And I especially liked the "bow ties are cool" image in the background!!

  3. Well, one good thing about Canberra (not that I've been...I know, SACRILEGE ::guffaw::) is that they have a Koko Black, unlike Sydney...take THAT, Sydney! Muhahahah. I mean, I can evil-laugh all I like seeing as we have, what, like 5 or so Koko Blacks here in Melbourne...? I trust you've been there but, if not, OMG GO NOW GOOOOO!

And I remember the noise of floppy disks saving stuff...ah, we all used to have floppy disks in year 8, year 9...and beyond! Heh heh.

Have a safe trip up to the capital!

Oh, and I totally wanna get in on the vlog action, hee! I think my "To Melbourne, with Love" blog post (check it out when you can, it's on the right hand side under recommended reading) speaks for itself in terms of how much of a Melburnian I am. I AM MELBURNIAN, HEAR ME ROAR!

    Ahem.

    Finally, happy Friiiiidaaaaay!

    1. Dude. Koko Black is my happy place. When the Koko Black opened in Canberra, it was pretty much the only thing that got me through in between trips to Melbourne!!

And yes, PLEASE VLOG. Because I like to encourage everyone to make fools of themselves on camera ;)

  4. Aww.. poor floppy's, no one wants to play with them anymore. The old floppy is on decline as more and more people switch from desktop pc's to laptops. Who remembers playing with a 5" floppy? Anyone? What? No, Im not being rude..

    1. When I started high school, 5" floppies were on the book list. But even then, they were hard to find. So we spent like a week searching for these stupid things, only to turn up and school and have them tell us that they'd made a mistake on the book list and we actually needed 3.25" floppies instead. So somewhere in my bedroom, there's a box of blank 5" floppy discs...

  6. Congrats on 400 posts! I completely intended to do something for my fiftieth posts in my re-launched blog but I noticed the other day that I am up to fifty-two posts without even noticing, so there goes that idea. So congratulations on noticing your milestone post, too!

Must. Watch. The Doctor Who. Thing...

  7. I finally watched the Woman in Black video, and it's hilarious. But then I checked and the Total Eclipse of the Heart video is not available anymore because of copyright reasons :( :( It is (was) also my favorite thing on YouTube. It says it's not available in my country, so if it is still available in yours I am very jealous!
