30 Days of Books - Day 28

So, ow. Last night, I managed to pull something in the left side of my neck reaching for my phone. And then I was reading Harry Potter in bed and I turned over, and pulled exactly the same something in the RIGHT side of my neck. And then on the way home, I managed to get a chunk of my hair caught around a screw on the bus window and wound up having to rip it out to avoid missing my stop. Basically? Thank God it's Friday, because I'm a freaking train wreck at the moment!

AnyIneedahaircut, on with the books!

Day 28 - Favourite title

The minute I saw this topic, there were two books that immediately sprang to mind.
I haven't actually read the first one. But I *DID* buy it for my older brother for Christmas a few years ago. I couldn't find it on the shelf, so I went up to the counter. The staff member asked if he could help, and I said "Yes, I'm looking for Don't Tell Mum I Work on the Rigs, She Thinks I'm a Piano Player in a Whorehouse, but I couldn't find it on the shelf..."

At that point, I heard a gasp to my right, and turned to see a tiny little old lady looking completely horrified. I half expected her to say that she was going to pray for my soul. Instead, she made a fluttering motion with her hand, went "Well, I NEVER!!" and walked out of the shop in a huff. It was kind of awesome. Oh, and it's a memoir, not a novel. I really do need to read it at some point!

The other one I own, and it's pretty great. I was reading it at work earlier in the year, and about four different people stopped, looked at the cover, and went "The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse??? BEST. TITLE. EVER..." The sequel, I should add, is called The Toyminator. He he he he he he.

What's your favourite book title?

  1. I have no clue what my favorite book title is. Ever since I started writing for CT my opinion on books is all skewed and all I can think about is how I have to read my next Goosebumps. AM I EVEN A REAL PERSON ANY MORE?

Also, that chocolate bunny one made me hungry. It's 8am...

  2. Lor, how is your favourite book title not 'My Hairiest Adventure'?? I mean, it's just such a QUALITY book, which is reflected by the title! ;)

And it's never too early for chocolate...

  3. Those are pretty awesome book titles :)

  4. "Don't tell..." is the funniest non-fiction book I've ever read!! It deserves every good mention it gets. I was given it as a present during a conversation about unusual jobs when I confessed that I'd never met anyone who works on an oil rig. After reading the book, I'm not sure if I do want to meet a rig worker or not...

  5. I love those book titles - and the reaction of the lady at the store is priceless!

  6. Char, Cam recently tried to convince me that I should spend a year working FIFO on an oil rig because you can apparently make $400,000 a year doing laundry on a rig. I voted for no...

  7. I love those titles. Sadly, my favourite book titled comes from a one-word book. It's called "Flicker." I had to buy it because I misread since it was all in caps on the cover.

  8. That is God’s way of punishing you for reading Harry Potter. Because even he knows it is fucking lame.

  9. "Puppetry of the Penis: The Ancient Australian Art of Genital Origami"

My sister was raving about this book when I visited her a few years ago, so we went to Dymock's to buy a copy for her husband's birthday. I walked up to the counter and said to the young lady, "Hi, I'm looking for the"

My sister chimed in with the full title.

The young lady laughed and asked if I had trouble saying penis.

I replied that I'd forgotten it began with "Puppetry..."

    I don't think she believed me :)

  10. I couldn't begin to tell you what my favorite book title is, but that is a pretty awesome book title (the latter.) Now, I must hope to come across it so I can read it!

  11. @Nikki - I've totally done that before too. I don't think it was with a book though... And I've just remembered that I once came across a book in the uni library that was called "A History of Shit". Sorry, just felt the need for a random segue!
    @Cap'n John - that's hilarious!!
@C - you should definitely read it, it's pretty damned awesome

  12. I have been wanting to read Robert Rankin for a while, the titles are always funny, but I am not allowing myself to buy any more books until my house it done.

Oh and HP...thinking about re-reading Deathly Hallows before the movie comes out next week but I an not sure I am emotionally strong enough to cope!

Currently reading Brian Greene's Elegant Universe..

Leave me a comment and I'll love you forever (except for spambots...)
